Welcome
Thank you for clicking on that tiny link that brought you here.
Welcome to bdfisher.com! I appreciate you taking the time to see what I can do for you, and it’s all about what I can do for you. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be here, right?
I’m an AWAI trained copywriter. What does that mean for you? AWAI is American Writers & Artists Inc. and specializes in training the BEST copywriters in the world, through extensive and ongoing training in all aspects of copywriting.
You probably have a few questions. I’ll see what I can do to answer them for you.
What is a copywriter?
Basically, a copywriter is someone who writes text for marketing and advertising purposes. It’s more than that though. A good copywriter connects people, whether it’s business to business (B2B), business to consumer (B2C), or as I like to call person to person (P2P). When you get down to the core of any interaction, it’s always person to person. If you send out an email or a flyer, and you send a hundred thousand copies of each, you are still only talking to one person at a time, and that makes it person to person.
Why do you need a copywriter?
To conduct an effective campaign, you need to reach your prospect where they are, right now, in this moment. You don’t want to bombard them with excessive jargon that makes them feel overwhelmed or insignificant, and at the same time, you’re not talking to a child. Of course, what you say has to be targeted properly. How you interact with a twenty something single mom working three jobs in Des Moines, is not how you’re going to gain a relationship with a retired surgeon in Brooklyn. That’s where I come in as a copywriter.
As a copywriter, it’s my job to know who I’m talking to, what I’m talking about, who I’m representing, and the best way to accomplish all of that at the same time, then put it into practice.
What sets me apart from other copywriters?
Well, there are a couple of things that set me apart from the others. I was a writer before I became a copywriter. I know, that’s not all that uncommon. It’s the circumstances around when I started writing that make it different. I’m a U.S. Army veteran, and when I was deployed to Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo in 1999 and 2000, I ran out of books to read and decided to write something that I would want to read. My first two novels came from that. This was when Kosovo was an active war zone. I was part of Task Force Falcon, and we removed Slobodan Milosevich from power. We sent him to The Hague, where he stood trial for war crimes, that included genocide.
I helped stop genocide. That makes me different. I have and will continue to take a stand for humanity.
It was surreal for me when the final assignment came through for the last history class I took at the University of North Dakota, and it was about the breakup of Yugoslavia. I was there, when it happened, and I have pictures and documents to prove it. Needless to say, my group did very well on that final.
I have been to a lot of places over the years and seen a lot of things. I’ve been to Pan Moon Jom, the Demilitarize Zone in Korea, including the conference room where the talks are held, on the North Korean side. I have pictures, that I took, of the Bridge of No Return, where prisoners are exchanged between the two Koreas. I spent a year in South Korea at Camp Paige in Chun Chon. That was in 1997 and 1998, back when North Korea launched missiles over mainland Japan. Camp Paige has been turned back to the Korean people and is no longer there.
From Korea, I went to Germany, and was stationed outside Ansbach, at Katterbach Kaserne until I changed station again in 2001. I spent three years there, with two tours in Kosovo during this time. There are plenty of stories to tell, but that’s for another time.
I had just changed station to Fort Carson, Colorado (Colorado Springs) when 9/11/01 happened. I’ve got stories here too. Maybe I’ll tell those later.
In my travels with the Army, I’ve been to South Korea, North Korea, Okinawa, Germany, Macedonia, Kosovo, Italy, Austria, France, and coast to coast in the U.S. – I was born and raised in Oregon, trained in Virginia, California, and South Carolina, and now live in Ohio.
While I was stationed at Fort Carson, I met my wife, and we’ve been married for nearly twenty-three years. Together, we have three amazing daughters and one incredible son. In this, I am blessed.
I didn’t stay in the Army past 2003. There are many stories and paths that we could talk about here, but let’s talk about experience and the education that it provides. I’ve worked as a mechanic, and I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve worked on and repaired just about everything from small engines, to ATVs, to John Deere tractors, to Semis and trailers, to helicopters. I’m certified through the Army on the CH-47D Chinook and the AH-64A Apache.
I’ve also been a production aluminum welder, making walls for Keystone travel trailers. I’ve been a Service Writer and Warehouse Manager (I am intimately familiar with SAP and logistics). The bulk of my experience, however, is in manufacturing and Quality Control. I’ve made rocker arms for Honda Motors (Fredericktown Tanaka Precision) and spent nearly twenty years with Ariel Corporation making natural gas compressors. Ariel put me through school for manual and CNC machining, and I’ve done Quality Control for them (Specializing in Customer Returns) for around fifteen years. I’ve also gone to school (University of North Dakota and Mount Vernon Nazarene University) for Mechanical Engineering.
Then there’s the curveball that I throw out there. I’m a writer. I’ve published two novels and have others that may never be seen by the public. I’ve been writing since I was in Kosovo. I ran out of books to read, so I decided to write and never stopped.

No matter where you are, or where you come from, we all bleed the same. We have the same needs; food, water, shelter, companionship, something to believe in. The only differences in humankind are the ones that we make ourselves.
